Our Vision

As Governors we will support, as well as challenge, the school to ensure that we achieve the best in all we do, to enable all of our children to realise their full potential throughout their school life and secure their lifelong success.

All decisions made by the Governing Board are based on the following criteria:

"Is it in the best interest of the Yenton child?"

Our Chair of Governors

Miss Popplewell, our Chair of Governors.

I am extremely proud to be elected as Chair of Governors at Yenton Primary School.

The aim of the Governing Board is to work with the staff in helping the children achieve their full potential in a happy, caring environment.

We oversee school activity at a strategic level and work with the Headteacher and the leadership team to set the school’s direction and identify how the school will develop and improve.

Subsequently we have legal duties, powers and responsibilities that we must exercise as a board, and we do this by:

Monitoring the performance and progress of our children.

Working with the staff to help them teach and care for our children, and planning ahead so that the performance of our children and our school continues to improve.

Deciding on how the resources of the school are best used.

Act as a critical friend to the Headteacher; to provide support, advice and information; to ask challenging questions and to press for improvement.

Ensure accountability of the Headteacher and staff.

We also have prime responsibility for the finance and safety of the school.

To deliver this effectively the Governing Board members are representative of all the key groups involved in our school – the Parents, the Staff, the Local Authority and the Community. Some are appointed and some are elected. All serve for a term of four years.

The Governing Body generally meets once a term and we have two sub- committees - Finance and Resources (which focuses on finance, staffing, health and safety, premises matters) and Curriculum and Standards (which focusses on teaching, learning and pupil progress). Many of our governors spend time in school working with staff and children to understand more about the day to day life of the school and monitor the progress that is being made.

Some of our governors are available at Parents’ Evening, so if you’d like to talk to us about what we do or have any questions please ask us. Alternatively you can always contact us through the school office or via email: However, please remember that if you have a question about your child or about day-to-day issues in school then that is a matter for the teacher or the Headteacher in the first instance.
